Forest Stewardship Council® is an independent, international, non-governmental organization (association) founded in 1993 in Mexico. The FSC provides a forum for people with different interests and focus to discuss, reflect, analyze and address forest management issues in a country and the world. The aim of the organization is to promote responsible forest management on a global scale. The FSC has developed a forest certification system (10 principles and 56 criteria), which makes it possible to identify environmentally sound, socially beneficial and economically viable forest management.
